Foil Printing In Textile Industry

As a textile manufacturer, chances are high you’re a foil printing enthusiast. We’re with you on that foil printing process. Foil printing on fabric is one of the old technique in the textile industry as it brings more flexibility and more speed. Those are all welcome advantages, given the high customer demands and a large variety of designs produced daily.

What is Foil Printing?

Foil printing is the process of applying designs to the fabric in definite patterns. In properly foil printing the color is bonded with the fiber, so as to resist washing and friction. Textile printing is related to dyeing but, whereas in dyeing proper the whole fabric is uniformly covered with one color. But in foil printing in one or more colors are applied to it in certain parts only and in sharply defined patterns.

In foil printing process heat, pressure and metallic paper are used to printing. This is used to create different shiny designs and graphics on fabrics. Foil printing gives the focus area an incredible look and is quickly becoming the preferred method of printing in the textile industry.

How it’s done

Actually foil printing is the process of transferring foil from a paper roll onto a fabric using heat and adhesives.Foil printing on fabric is a great way of adding shine and luster to a product. We love how designers have used foil printing in so many creative ways from adding a classy baroque look to a table runner to adding fun and bling to a cushion cover.

Today, there are a range of foil papers available in market. Metallic like gold, silver and copper and regular colours that can give our material a royal and shiny makeover.

You can view some of our textile foils right here.

For bulk manufacturing, rotary screen foil printing is commonly used.

Initially, a rotary screen is made using the design that needs to be printed. This screen is then used along with the foil paper, heat and adhesives to transfer the foil onto the fabric. The cost of making the screen is much more expensive for foil printing that it is for regular rotary or flatbed printing – this makes sampling or customised short runs more difficult to do.

Colour Editing Terms and its Definition

1.Color Correction

Color correction is the process that fixes color issues, adjusts basic color and makes film or video appear as accurate as possible. To be precise, color correction is about correcting several aspects of footage which can make a huge difference to your video.

2.Color Grading
Color grading is the process of improving the color, saturation, and contrast of an image. It is a more creative concern and makes the footage look more idealistic. In simpler terms, it is used to change the visual tone of an image.

3.Additive color
It is the process of combining primary colors and creates new colors. In additive color combining primary colors, red, blue and green and form new colors.

4.Black level

Wikipedia says that “Video black level is defined as the level of brightness at the darkest part of a visual image or the level of brightness at which no light is emitted from a screen, resulting in a pure black screen.” It is the brightness level in the darkest part of the video.

5. Chroma or Chrominance
It is the process of compositing two images or video streams together based on there color hues and saturation. This technique is used to remove the background of the video or image.

6. Color cast
If a variety of light sources being mixed, or the white balance being incorrect then the image or video doesn’t look natural. It can be corrected by using editing techniques.

7. Color gamut
Color gamut is a certain subset of colors and brightness that can be displayed on a device. It’s important for a video colorist must stay within this color scope.

8. Contrast ratio
Contrast ratio is the property of a display system, it is the difference between the lightest pixels and the darkest pixels within a shot. The bigger the difference, the larger the ratio.

9. Dynamic range
It is the range between the maximum light intensity and minimum light intensity. This allows you to maintain the relationship between the white and black levels when you’re adjusting the luminance of your video or image.

This operation used to encode and decode the luminous of the video. It is the relationship between a pixel’s numerical value and its actual luminous. Simply gamma is the overall brightness of an image.

Hue is the pure spectrum color, defined by the dominant wavelength. It describes the color at its most saturated.

12. Luminous or luma
Luminous is the brightness information of color, ranging from white to black. However, it does not include any chroma, a.k.a. color information.

Saturation is the intensity of a hue, or how “colorful” a shade might be, varying between its fullest form to no color at all.

Temperature is the warmth or coolness of the shot’s color. For example, blues and purples are on the cooler end, while reds and oranges are on the warmer end.

15.White balance
White balance is the process of removing any color casts from your shot so that all of the whites in an image are represented exactly as the human eye would perceive white. Unless you’re shooting RAW, it’s important that you get the white balance right in camera. If your white balance is way off, it’s hard to correct it without altering other colors in your shot or degrading the overall image quality.

Heat, pressure, metal dies and foil film are used in Foil stamping printing process. If you have the right equipment then, this process may be simple, you can directly apply foil printing to clothes. The foil is first of all printing and cut using special glue and a press. Then, the colored foil is stuck to the fabric using a heat press.

What color foil is available?
There are wide varieties of colors and designs are available in the market. Commonly used colors are gold and silver, but there are lots of other options are available.

You can choose the color and patterns. Foil is also available in different shades like shiny and matte. If you’re looking for a custom color, those are available too. In our warehouse also provide rainbow color foil too.

Absolutely Yes, it is longlasting. If you properly applied foil printing on quality material then it has high durability. Do be aware, however, that the shine from the foil will fade a little every time you wash it, which is why many people choose to hand wash fabrics decorated with foil.

Can I combine foil and water-based ink together?
Water-based ink can easily be combined with foil. It is common for water-based ink designs to be printed on fabric and then highlight with foil. The foil can even be applied over ink, should it need to.

Is there any instruction for printing?
There are a few things you need to remember. You should consider some simple tips.

Foil always breaks down over time and fades, so when designing with foil, try and make it look a little distressed from the beginning. This will keep the design intact for longer, and even add an interesting element to your pattern and art.

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
